What is a meet & greet?

〰️

What is a meet & greet? 〰️

We know handing your dog over to someone new is a big deal. They’re family!

A Meet & Greet is a short, friendly introduction where we get to know you and your dog before they attend daycare or boarding. And you get to know us.

It helps us understand your dog’s personality, needs, and comfort levels, as well as what you’re hoping for from our care. That way, we can plan the best possible introduction and approach for them when they check-in.

There’s no passing or failing here, and no pressure to decide anything.

It’s simply a chance to make sure everyone feels comfortable before moving forward.

What to Expect at Your Meet & Greet

A CALM WELCOME

You’ll arrive at Fur Mum and meet one of our team in a calm, small-dog-only space designed to help dogs feel safe, curious, and at ease.

Getting to Know Your DoG

We’ll chat about your dog’s routine, personality, energy levels, and any concerns (like anxiety or medications), while giving them a chance to take in the space.

Gentle Introductions

First impressions really matter, especially for little dogs. Your dog is introduced to a calm,

experienced role-model dog who helps set the tone through gentle, non-reactive behaviour.

We watch how your pup responds: Are they nervous? Curious? Excited? This helps us plan their first day and tailor their introduction to the pack.

Individual care plan

We take what we’ve learned about your dog’s needs and the outcomes you’re hoping for and create a plan to help them thrive at Fur Mum.

NEXT STEPS

From here, we’ll chat about what steps make sense. That might be booking daycare or boarding, starting the onboarding process, or simply taking time to decide whether Fur Mum feels right.

Why Do We Start With a Meet & Greet?

A woman is watering three dogs playing in a backyard with a garden hose, surrounded by green grass and a fence.

Fur Mum is a small dog only, cage free environment with limited numbers, so getting the fit right really matters to us.

A Meet & Greet helps us:

🐾 Keep dogs safe and comfortable

🐾 Match dogs with the right environment

🐾Support shy, nervous, or sensitive dogs

🐾 Maintain a calm, happy pack dynamic

Starting this way helps avoid stress later and gives everyone the best chance at a happy, settled experience.

🐾 Focuses on social comfort, play style, and confidence in a group setting

🐾 Helps us understand how your dog handles playtime and downtime in a group setting

🐾 Designed to support your dog as they grow in confidence over time

🐾 Includes a quick wander through the daycare space so you can see where your dog will spend their day

🐾 Focuses on helping your dog feel comfortable with overnight stays and a different routine

🐾 Walks you through how our cage free boarding at Bluewater works, including evenings and mornings

🐾 Gives us a chance to make sure a group setting feels right for your dog, before you head off

🐾 You’ll meet Jen, who will be looking after your family member at Bluewater House.

🐾 Focuses on how Fur Mum can help you give your dog everything they need.

🐾 Walks you through how everything works.

🐾 We will create a care plan to help your dog thrive in the Fur Mum Family.

🐾 Jen, who personally cares for our boarders, will give you a daycare tour.

They all follow the same gentle introduction process. The difference is simply what we focus

on depending on whether your dog is coming for daycare, boarding, or both.

MEET THE HUMANS

Jen looks after boarding, while Holly runs the show at daycare. Between us, we’ve spent decades getting to know small dogs and what helps them feel safe, settled, and happy.

From time to time, another trusted member of our team may step in — but whoever you

meet, you’ll be talking to someone who genuinely cares about your dog and knows the FurMum way.

If you’ve got more questions:

Common Questions ABOUT MEET & GREET

  • Usually around 15-30 minutes, depending on how your dog settles and how many questions you have.

  • No. It’s not a test — it’s an introduction. We’re simply getting to know your dog so we can plan the best experience for them.

  • Anxiety is especially common in small dogs, and it is one of our specialties.

The Meet & Greet helps us understand their triggers and plan accordingly. Reactivity can be tough though.

If your dog’s first instinct is to lash out, you may need to work with a trainer first before stepping it up to group dynamics.

  • All dogs need a current C5 vaccination. Please bring proof to your appointment or send it through beforehand.
